Hey there, fellow Coton lovers! Let's talk about something that's probably on every new puppy parent's mind - those tiny, razor-sharp puppy teeth! 😬
First things first, don't worry. Puppy biting is totally normal. It's how these little furballs play and explore their world. But man, those teeth can hurt! So, how do we teach our Coton cuties to be gentler? Here are some tricks that have worked wonders for me:
1. Toy Time: Always have some fun chew toys on hand. When your pup starts nibbling on you, quickly swap your hand for a toy. It's like magic - they forget all about your fingers!
2. The Cold Shoulder: If your Coton gets too bitey during playtime, simply stop the fun and walk away. They'll soon learn that biting means no more attention. You can even use a playpen to create a little "time-out" space.
3 . Treat Training: Here's a cool trick - only give treats when they lick your hand, never when they use teeth. Hold the treat in your fist and wait for them to stop pawing and biting. When they do, say "YES!" and give the treat. Start with a short wait, then gradually increase it. Remember, patience is key!
4 . Show and Tell: Don't just wait for your pup to bite. When they come running, ask for a sit, then reward them. This way, you're showing them what you want them to do instead of biting.
Remember, our Coton puppies are learning how to be dogs in a human world. It's up to us to show them the ropes with lots of love and patience. Before you know it, those sharp puppy teeth will be replaced by gentler adult ones, and you'll have a well-mannered Coton companion!
