According to the French tradition, each year is assigned a letter of the alphabet. Every Coton de Tulear puppy born in that year is given a name that begins with that letter. In the spirit of that tradition, we will name each Coton de Tulear puppy born in 2024 with a name beginning with the letter "P". New owners are welcome to change the name if desired.

Future Coton de Tulear Puppy Litters

Kaley & Mufasa bred. Puppies are due May 11th.
Monet & Noki bred. Puppies are due May 16th.
Milly & Noki bred. Puppies are due May 26th.

You can follow the arrival and growth of the puppies from each litter by clicking on the name of the Dam under the Current Litters link. (If you are on a phone and have difficulty with the Current Litters links, you will find links to each page on the Home page as well.) We do weekly video and picture updates on each litter.  When we have puppies we mark the puppies as "Available" until someone on our waiting list claims that puppy. Then we mark the puppy as "Reserved". When the puppy leaves our homes we mark him "Sold".

Choosing a Puppy

People ask us all the time, "What is the difference between a male and a female puppy?" You may have felt that choosing a breed was the biggest decision you had to make before getting a dog. But now that you have decided on a Coton, you are faced with a more basic decision: do you want a male dog, or a female? There is an old saying that has circulated for a long time among dog aficionados:
“If you want a good dog, get a male. If you want a great dog, get a female and cross your fingers.”

One thing that must be taken into account when evaluating a saying like
this or the differences that may or may not exist between male and female dogs, is the role played by cultural stereotypes. If men or women have certain concepts about each other, they may have a tendency to project them onto animals in a way that is not entirely appropriate. One further caveat needs to be given, and that is that when we speak of the differences that may really exist between male and female dogs, it must be understood that these are generalities. While a male or female dog may be more likely
to possess certain characteristics or behavioral traits, this does not mean these generalities apply in every case. With all of that out of the way, let’s look at some differences that appear to exist, generally speaking, between male and female dogs.

Puppy Birthing

July 14, 2016

Someone asked me today if I ever videotaped the birth of our puppies.  I told her I had done that once or twice but didn't put it in a permanent spot on my website.  Since I was helping to birth Jazz's puppies at the time of this conversation, I decided to set up the camera and tape the event.  In this video you will see a couple of puppies born.  Please note that it is a slightly bloody process, yet beautiful at the same time.
